【Basic Kanji 09】 Based on 木~ 本 and 未 are

Hi there ! I am Kotaro who has a Nepali husband, Araam. He learns Kanji for N5 or N4 (Japanese language level),  I have been trying to find out how to memorize them easily.

I have introduced 木,林 and 森 in the 7th post for Nihongo.

This time I want to share Kanjis to form on based on 木. I found six Kanjis and tonight I show two of them.

木

Kanjis that are made based on 木

Ah...please set your browser's language "not translated in English" mode.

①本(hon, pon, bon)

This can be writen if you add one more line to 木 on the lower part of the trunk, I mean the vertical line.

本(hon, pon, bon) a book, fundamental, center

We can remember this Kanji such as... something important is on the bottom, roots

of a tree. Important roots, that is fundamental.

WORDs

  • 日本(nihon, nippon)Japan
  • 本当(hontou) true
  • 本当に?(hontou ni)are you sure? really?
  • (hon ya) a book store

[TIPS]

means shop/store. You can say パン屋(pan ya)a bakery  、花屋(hana ya) a flower shop.  屋 is a relatively difficult Kanji but you can hear those words often. So let's just remember them.

本 is one of counters

There are a lot of counters in Japanese. 本 is one of them. We use 本 to count long, cylindrical objects such bottles, umbrellas, pens, carrots Japanese- white- radishs  and trees.

Complicatedly we don't count books by 本...冊(satsu)is the counter for books. I will introduce this other day.

It is more complicated that we pronounce differently.(+_+). Hon Pon bon....

一本(ippon)

二本(nihon)

三本(sanbon

四本(yonhon)

五本(gohon)

六本(ropppon

七本(nanahon)

九本(kyuuhon)

十本(juppon

I have remembered an old pop tune, Nimjin Musume(a girl like a carrot).

If you listen it at 0:55, he sings like "ippon demo ninjin, niiinjin, nihon demo ninjin, ninnjin.." we can refer to it and it how to pronounce "Ppon".

②未(mi, ima) to have not, not yet

Against 本, this has one line on the upper of 木.

How to remember this Kanji is.....

As 未 means the future, trees grow higher and they have younger leaves on the top. Youth is the future.

fundamental and future

fundamental and future

WORDs

  • 未来(mirai) future

You can remember this like, if 未 is combined with 来(⑤), yet to 来る(kuru). It means that it is yet to come, that is equal to the future since 来る means  to come.

  • 未だ(imada ) yet - this sounds a little seriously and we don't use this casually.

How to use then?

Hmmmm... let say, if someone is kidnapped(!), you would hear news saying "未だ、見つかっていません。(imada mitsukatte imasen)It means that the somone is yet to be found."

Okay... I need to take shower now.
I will share  ③ to ⑥ next time ! Have a good Friday night !
